Engineering Support Role
To support all engineering activities and standards across the site. Delivering the highest standard of engineering support is of the utmost importance, whilst working closely with other functions, supporting joint goals, and leading by example. Duties include preventative maintenance on machines and equipment, as well as responding to emergency machine breakdowns throughout the plant. Involvement with new design, installation, and movement of existing machines. Overhaul and repair of machines, ensuring that all equipment on site is safe to use, efficient, and fit for purpose. To assist the Engineering Manager and deputise when required. Rotating shift patterns as required by the business. Candidates must be flexible, as call-outs may be required in line with the remit of the post.
Role and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

Lead by example to drive health and safety best practice onsite in terms of general controls, housekeeping, and engineering standards

Maintain high standards ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and procedures for both employees and contractors

Ensure risk assessments are completed and signed off by all contractors

Factory Performance
-
Manage and resolve factory breakdowns, either within the team or overseeing external engineering resources
-
Act quickly to resolve issues and communicate clearly with the site team

Provide expertise and develop knowledge on all site equipment
-
Assist with planned preventative maintenance, ensuring schedules are achieved within budget
-
Complete site job requests from the Engineering Manager and wider team

Provide technical backup and advice to production departments
-
Control contractors and issue permits to work documentation

Record use of materials, spare parts, and labour hours worked
-
Maintain high housekeeping and hygiene standards in engineering stores and workshops
-
Strive for the highest standards in machine performance and finished goods packaging

Record, manage, and value all spare parts with feedback to Finance
-
Flex working hours to meet site demands and support site teams
-
Ensure suppliers are managed effectively and perform to required standards

Develop strong relationships with factory operatives

Work under pressure during operational breakdowns and challenges

Develop and train key operatives, supporting creation of a strong site team

Promote a proactive culture of pride, involvement, and ownership

Ensure equipment is safe to use and fit for purpose

Work with and install single-phase / three-phase electrical circuits

Carry out repairs and maintenance to site facilities

Promote safe working practices
-
Communicate effectively with management and relevant parties, seeking advice when required

Complete time/task sheets daily in line with procedures

Carry out any other duties as required, commensurate with the role

Qualifications and Experience
-
Educated to degree / HND level
-
Qualified multi-skilled engineer with electrical bias (18th Edition)
-
3+ years’ experience in a food production environment

Food Safety Level 3 Hygiene Certificate

IOSH Certificate
-
Automation / PLC experience
-
BRC experience desirable
-
Recognised electrical / mechanical apprenticeship

Good written and oral communication skills in English
